The Tony McGinnity Memorial Award-Merchant Mariners of Wight.
The Committee of the MMW sought a worthy candidate for the Founders Award and with the help of Captain Jill Kernick and her fellow tutors from at Warsash Maritime Academy the Award of £500 was won by Cadet Kieran Flannagan of Clyde Marine.
A splendid lunch at the New Holmwood Hotel Cowes , arranged by Peter Burman, presided over by the Chairman Peter Hedley and attended by over 30 members was followed by an informative brief on the methodology of choosing the winner of the Award by Captain Jill Kernick . Then Kieran, the son of a Master Mariner and Pilot gave a fascinating account of life at sea today.
Our Chief Executive, a guest at the lunch, was invited to present the Award to Kieran and in doing so congratulated Kieran on a most able and informative presentation. It was abundantly clear from Kieran’s presentation that the high standards of entry and the proud traditions of the Merchant Navy were ever present.
The Merchant Mariners of Wight are founder members of the Federation and again this year made a most generous donation of £200 for which we are sincerely grateful.
