Protection for all qualifying ships.

Dr Peter Marsden FSA is again raising the issue of protection for merchant ships lost by enemy action.

A team led by Peter successfully had the wreck of the SS Storaa protected after a protracted legal action.

The Federation, joined by Robert Yorke Chairman of the Joint Nautical Archeology Policy Committee, and the Merchant Navy Association are pressing HM government to protect all qualifying merchant ships under the Protection of Military Remains Act 1986.

In addition we are seeking that the latitude and longitude locations of all protected wrecks are published and that a presumption is made against the salvage of protected wrecks except under icence and after consultation with Veterans' organisations.

A letter has been sent to the Minister for Veterans outlining our requests and we at present considering the response received from Royal Nay Command.

An member who has expertise, legal or otherwise in these matters is asked to contact our Chief Executive.
