“REMEMBERING THE MERCHANT NAVY”

(A Youth and Veterans Project from the Federation of Merchant Mariners –
Supported by the Veterans Policy Unit of the Ministry of Defence)

In two world wars, and in conflicts since, the Merchant Navy has been central to the defence of the United Kingdom. Through the effort of hundreds of thousands of sailors from the UK and around the world the food, fuel and materials needed to defend the UK were brought across the oceans and the military power necessary for final victory was deployed and supported. Tens of thousands of those sailors from many nationalities sacrificed their lives in this effort. Perhaps a member of your organisation served in the Merchant Navy?

WE INVITE YOU TO:

TAKE PART IN

OUR NATIONAL PROJECT TO BRING VETERANS AND THEIR STORIES TO YOUNG PEOPLE

We encourage organisations to make contact with their local Merchant Navy Association and invite veterans into their meetings.

COMMEMORATE WITH US

THOSE WHO DID NOT SURVIVE

Please send us details of your former members who died in the Merchant Navy in the service of the country.

CONTRIBUTE TO

THE “REMEMBERING THE MERCHANT NAVY” WEBSITE

With your help “Remembering the Merchant Navy” will build a database of organisations which have Merchant Navy connections and interests. We welcome details and photographs of how your group has already worked with Merchant Navy veterans and of your experiences in researching Merchant Navy losses. If your group is new to this area we can offer advice!

PLEASE LOG ON TO www.merchant-mariners.co.uk WHERE YOU CAN JOIN
